Classical Twist for Terryglass Arts Festival

Renowned Slovakian Violinist ‘Vladimir’ Performs in Terryglass Church Friday 16th August 8pm

Monday 1st July 2013- Young Slovakian star violinist Vladimir Jablokov and his band of peerless musicians will be the headline act in this year’s Terryglass Arts Festival ( 14th- 18th August). Vladimir’s Classical Twist concert will take place in Terryglass Church on Friday 16th August and features a hugely popular blend of classics and rock- pop music reworked into new and vibrant shapes. From Bach to Beatles, The Stones to Strauss – Vladimir’s superb virtuoso performance will wow the audience and leave them gasping for more.

Since arriving in Ireland in 2004, Vladimir has played some of Ireland's most prestigious venues; including The National Concert Hall, The Gaiety Theatre, Marley Park, Cork Opera House, Limerick UCH and, at the behest of then President McAleese; to an audience in Aras an Uachtaráin.

Vladimir is steeped in the classical tradition coming from four generations of professional music makers, with a Russian maestro for a father and five musical siblings around him at home.

He started playing the violin aged five, making his stage debut at the tender age of ten.

Festival Chairperson Valerie Cotter is looking forward to welcoming Vladimir and his band of musicians to Terryglass.

“Terryglass Arts Festival is delighted to have secured an artist of Vladimir’s calibre and reputation as the headline act of the Festival,” she said.

“Since the release of his superb debut CD Classical Twist: The Album, Vladimir has charmed viewers and listeners on The Late Late Show, RTE Radio 1 and Lyric FM. I’m really looking forward to this concert which will be one of the highlights of the Terryglass Arts Festival,” concluded Ms Cotter.

Another highlight of the Terryglass Arts Festival, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, is the exhibition “Travelling Circus” by Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre. An Irish premier, this eerily magical theatrical performance features amazing kinetic sculptures crafted from carved wood and pieces of scrap whirring, clicking, buzzing and clanking into action to tell their story.  Performances of this mysterious and darkly humorous exhibition take place every day during the festvial.
